The best way to show you what Favorite Things can do in repair or restoration for your antitque/collectible, is actually to show you some examples of items that we have actually done for other people.   Favorite Things has been doing this for over ten years and has accomplished hundreds of successful repairs.   Some were done for my personal collection, but most were for collector's like yourself.

Favorite Things Sample Repair # 1:

This is a map from a book that is from 1903,   The map is folded up and in the back of the book.   Just from use, the map corner from being unfolded  has a rip that is about about 1" - 1 1/2" long.  The rip continues to grow each time it is unfolded.

What Favorite Things tried to do in conservation of this specific map, is just to provide re-inforcement of the paper.   It not really a cosmetic repair that needs to look just perfect, it is more to save the overall document's current condition.   Though we could have totally concealed the rip it from both sides at greater expense, it was decided that re-inforcement was the best medicine,

A project like this would only be $30 - $40.00 depending on the size of the rip.

If you wanted it to be perfect and unseen, the cost would probably double. In this case a map of the Indian Reservations across the USA in 1903 would allow you to spend that extra money.

Favorite Things Sample Repair # 2:

This is a Belleek Tall Water Pitcher that has good value.  It was cracked as shown from the inside, but the crack extended to the outside base.    It also showed the crack along the side of the base, extending up the sides by of the pitcher by about 1 1/2".  The main object in this case, since it was a family heirloom, was to make it presentable for display in a case.

The crack along the side was filled and everything was re-colored to match the surrounding along the side.   The gilt was also re-colored and then a glaze was put over the entire bottom section that was re-done.   The final picture shows the base just before it is going to be re-colored.  The object would be to match the color as is or to make it darker to totally hide the crack, without the color standing out like a sore thumb.

A restoration like this is expensive, and would cost $250 - $500.00 depending on how perfect you wanted to actually make the final product.

Favorite Things Sample Repair # 3:

This is a large Roseville Vase that has decent value.   It had a good size chip that extended from the lip outside to the lip inside.   The chip was in a very exposed place on the vase, which means it had to be done in a very exacting way. The size was 1+ across by 1/2" x 1/4" deep.  It was decided that the value made it possible to make this vase cosmetically valuable again.

In the pictures you can see exactly where the chip was at, and at the magnification level that was used in the photography you can barely see any difference.   In a normal viewing setting, where no one pointed out where it was damaged, the repair would be unseen.   The only time it would be found, would be by an expert who put it under extreme light and magnification.   From the collector standpoint, made aware that the vase had a repair, this would be a fantastic example of a rare Roseville Vase for his or her collection.

The cost of this type of repair would be $150.00 - $225.00.

I will be adding more examples of my reapir work as times goes on.   If you are interested in more examples, email me from above, and I will be glad to take care of it for you.
